Live Fashion Illustration for The (IN) Bloom Gala with Mayor Olivia Chow at The Carlu, Toronto
/There is a specific kind of magic that happens when Toronto’s civic leaders, business icons, and creative visionaries gather in one room. Last year, I had the distinct pleasure of being part of that synergy at the Toronto Mayor’s Evening for the Arts, hosted by the Toronto Arts Foundation.
The evening was a true celebration of the city, hosted by Mayor Olivia Chow, whose passionate support for the local creative sector set the tone for the night. Set against the Art Deco elegance of The Carlu, the (IN) Bloom Gala wasn't just a high-profile party—it was a mission-driven event that successfully aimed to raise $1 million to fund the artists and organizations that keep Toronto’s cultural heart beating.
Elevating the Gala with Live Fashion Portraits
To complement the night’s immersive installations and live performances, I was brought in to provide live fashion sketching in Toronto for the gala’s distinguished guests.
Knowing the scale of this event, I collaborated with the incredibly talented Natasha Dichpan. Together, we provided a high-end, interactive art experience that became one of the major talking points of the night.
Why Live Illustration was a Gala Highlight:
The "Must-Have" Experience: Our sketching station saw a non-stop line of guests—including city-builders and artists alike—eager to see their gala attire transformed into custom art.
Premium Keepsakes: In an era of digital oversaturation, a hand-drawn fashion portrait offers a tangible, sophisticated memento that guests actually treasure.
A Perfect Pairing for Luxury Events: Our live art acted as both entertainment and a networking hub, fitting perfectly into the upscale atmosphere of The Carlu.
Feedback from the Toronto Arts Council
While the demand for our sketches was rewarding, receiving a personal note from Kelly Langgard, Director & CEO of the Toronto Arts Council, was a true honor. It’s always a win when our work resonates with the city's top cultural leaders.
“The Mayor’s Evening for the Arts and (In) Bloom gala celebration was creative, fun, and full of life — and that’s thanks in large part to you! Your talent and enthusiasm helped make the evening unforgettable. People absolutely loved their fashion portraits and they made for such a great keepsake of the evening.”
Hiring a Live Event Artist in Toronto
Whether it’s a high-stakes fundraiser like (IN) Bloom or an exclusive corporate brand activation, live event drawing adds a layer of personalization that standard photography simply can't match.
I am incredibly grateful to the Toronto Arts Foundation and Mayor Olivia Chow for the opportunity to contribute to such a monumental cause. If you are looking to hire a live fashion illustrator in Toronto to elevate your next gala, wedding, or luxury corporate event, I’d love to help you make it unforgettable.
